Dear Reader,
Anyone who's been a client of mine will know how much I love the question "What's been good?" Thinking about positive things activates particular circuits in the pre-frontal cortex (what I often refer to as the "conscious mind", also known as the executive function) as well as the reward-oriented parts of the emotional brain, for example the Left Amygdala (for right handed people - for lefties it can be more distributed).
Overall this quickly leads to a seeking and expecting of more positive things. Which, it turns out, can make a massive difference.
So here's what's been good in my life recently:
I've been to London. Seen some incredible gigs, one combining New Orleans jazz with Astromony. Who knew?! These are my 88 year old dad's favourite subjects so of course I invited him too, and went to Portsmouth to escort him from his home up to London for the weekend. He totally loved it and it was wonderful to spend really good quality time with him. Even if it was, as the performers / presenters said, the weirdest night in London!
I also went on a parenting course, and a brilliant course about relationships called Evolve. Wow. I did! Evolve. Life is learning, and learning is life. We can learn so much from and in relation to others. Parenting and partnership - what better teachers could there be. If you're open to it! I love it.
Speaking of connections, as mentioned last week our surfing networking event is coming up next Friday 31st October, 830-11am. All welcome, even if you've never surfed before. There's a really lovely group of people coming, local and Cornish businesses and also some folks representing community organisations. Towan beach gives us the perfect combo of safety and waves that everyone can enjoy. You can SIGN UP HERE.
It's in support of The Wave Project - the incredible surf therapy charity that's nation-wide but based here in Newquay.
Thanks too to everyone who expressed interest in my new programme I RISE. I will be sharing more about this shortly. I've also been reading about Stoicism and it turns out there's a lot of ancient wisdom out there which is coming to fruition and gaining traction in the modern world. There is hope! We can all lead good lives.
There'll be much more to come in terms of tools, ideas and resources to support you. If you haven't already it's really helpful to me and hopefully for you to follow me on LinkedIn and instagram and to subscribe to my youtube channel. Links also via the icons below π
Warmly and wavily, and have a positive and lovely week,
Adam
