Hi Reader
It's typical of a Cornwall Chamber of Commerce event that I travel to the deepest, lushest, loveliest places only to be inspired by matters of global importance that significantly expand my mind!
Yesterday I was at the Budock Vean Hotel and Spa for a Chamber breakfast. It was more business than spa and I didn't take the chance to explore the surrounding area, like I used to in my early days as a Chamber member, but it was a very worthwhile trip.
The first thing I noticed was a LOT of trees down along the way. Clearly a huge amount of clearing and tree surgery has been taking place these last two weeks. My thoughts went out to all those affected.
At the meeting, the team from St Petrocs homelessness charity explained the many ways in which businesses can support. On their coastal walks everyone just meets, walks and talks. No status, no labels, no expectations. It's a rich and valuable space for everyone, proving that even a short conversation can change lives. And you may never know what a difference it makes - but the other person does.
Another member of the team enlightened me on how the fabric of social connection is so important to people without a roof, sometimes more so. I found this fascinating. A comfortable life indoors is not always a connected life.
Then I learned that a delegation of Cornish leaders had visited Downing Street, putting Cornwall firmly on the national map, for all the right reasons. Productivity, passion and potential.
It was all very inspiring. At the end I connected with a friend Sara who runs networking swimming events. Events at which I have forged deep, lasting and really supportive relationships.
Water, trees, commerce, connection. Humans are so interesting. It was ever thus, and hence history, the Helford and humanity are forging feelings of a flourishing future.
We left under blue skies having made new friends.
